The Rockville, Maryland office of the firm handles third party recoveries for several Federal Employees Health Benefits Plans, including the Mail Handlers Benefit Pan (MHBP), the Special Agents Mutual Benefit Association (SAMBA) Health Benefit Plan, the Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) and the Rural Carrier Benefit Plan (RCBP). As part of their Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan contracts with the US Office of Personnel Management, these Plans are required to initiate reimbursement efforts for benefits issued as a result of any accident, illness or injury when one of their members receives compensation from a third party as a result of the incident (i.e., auto accident, medical malpractice, product liability, etc.).

MHBP third party cases are assigned in the office based on the first three numbers of the enrollee’s social security number as follows: SSN 000 through 260 contact Maggie Struble; SSN 261 through 450 contact Liz Zimmerman; and SSN 451 through 999 contact Le Clark. SAMBA Health Benefit Plan third party cases are assigned to Liz Zimmerman, and both the FSBP and RCBP third party cases are assigned to Abby Barbeito.

Members’ obligations concerning liability insurance and third party actions (subrogation) are described in annual plan brochures. You will also find a link to the appropriate Individual’s Authorization for Release of Information Form used to confirm the direction of an individual that we use or disclose Protected Health Information (PHI) for a particular purpose, as well as the Lien Against (Assignment of) Proceeds of Recovery/ Reimbursement Agreements required under the terms of the Plans’ brochures to be executed and returned to the Plans.
